Falcons scout expected to attend Colin Kaepernick’s workout on Saturday

Former NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick is set to have a private workout at the Falcons’ facility on Saturday, Nov. 16 in front of NFL team representatives. According to Dan Quinn, via The Falcoholic’s Jeanna Thomas, the Atlanta Falcons will have a scout at the private workout.

Quinn made sure to reiterate that the workout isn’t being held by the Falcons, although the workout is taking place at the Falcons’ headquarters at Flowery Branch.

Colin Kaepernick played for the San Francisco 49ers from 2011 through 2016, recording 12,271 passing yards, 2,300 rushing yards, and 85 total touchdowns. Kaepernick still holds an NFL record for most rushing yards by a quarterback in a single game (181). In the 2012 NFC Championship, the San Francisco 49ers defeated the Falcons 28-24, with Kaepernick completing 16-of-21 passes for 233 yards and one touchdown.

Kaepernick has been out of the league since he opted out of his contract with the 49ers during the 2017 offseason. Kaepernick was the first NFL player to kneel during the national anthem in protest against police brutality and racial inequality.

At quarterback, the Falcons currently have Matt Ryan, Matt Schaub, Danny Etling (practice squad), Kurt Benkert (IR) and Matt Simms (IR).

Schaub, 38, isn’t getting any younger, but he played well in his one start this season. Schaub got the nod against the Seahawks when Matt Ryan was sidelined with a high ankle sprain. Schaub completed 75 percent of his passes for 460 yards, one touchdown, and one pick in the 27-20 loss.
